*(( Engineering - USS Thunder -A))*

It was the first time he had been in an Akira class, although he knew all
the basic specifications of it. Since he knew he had to work on the Thunder
and Thor he read as much as he could about the features of those ships and
the technologies they incorporated. Especially the QSD, on the Thor should
work perfectly, but using it in an Akira class was a challenge. Although
its primary hull was relatively narrow, the nacelles provided it with a
much wider width than the Vesta class. Also, it seemed that the Thunder had
a number of modifications that he was not aware of.

As soon as the Vulcan arrived he tried to see what modifications had been
made and how they would affect both the warp drive and the quantum drive.
He approached a console near the warp drive and began to see the
specifications. They had installed more phaser arrays, had incorporated
additional shielding and larger impulse motors, probably to compensate for
the additional weight. It was not necessary to be a great expert that all
those modifications put the warp core to the limit, that even prepared for
it would cause a greater wear and consumption.

Once the basics were reviewed, he began to carry out the diagnostics to
check that the systems worked and were ready to go, and during the journey
he should become familiar with the details of the modifications.

Lt. Commander Brodie A.S.A.P. Turner out.=/\=

*Pandorn*: Response

Shortly after the admiral asked for the status report, they received a
request from the helm to turn on the QSD so the ensign approached a quantum
drive control console. The start of the engine ignition had its
automatisms, but it had to be checked by the engineers, so the rest of the
engineering crew took their places to check and adjust the ignition if
necessary. He began by checking that the operation of the quantum matrix
initator was correct. It was the first time he had supervised the ignition
of a quantum drive beyond a simulation and he wanted to make sure it was
done correctly.

*Sirok*: The quantum drive has been switched on, the operation of the
quantum matrix initatior is nominal. The condition of the benamite crystals
is stable. ::He reported to his superior in his usual monotone voice.

*Pandorn*: Response

While they were still working on the ignition of the QSD, Admiral Turner
got to engineering from the turbolift.

*Turner*: Gentleman, I have a special project for you.

The Vulcan moved away from the console so that a crew member could still
supervise the activation and he could listen carefully to Turner's orders.

*Pandorn*: Response

*Turner*: Major Parker told me that the Thunder just happens to have a
Klingon cloaking device in the Hive that has not been off-loaded yet. Since
we have it, I'd like to put it to good use. After the QSD is engaged I'd
like you to set it up for the Thunder. Think you could do that for us?

*Sirok*: Admiral, the use of a cloaking device is prohibited by the treaty
of Algeron. ::With that statement the young vulcan indicated that the order
to use it was illegal and therefore he did not have to comply with it.

*Sirok*: Furthermore, use a cloaking device on the Typhon Expanse would be
dangerous as its power consumption is such that it does not allow the use
of the shields, the ship would be more exposed to the distortions of the
Expanse. ::He did not want to comment on the possible complication of the
device not working properly due to the modifications of the Thunder. Its
power consumption was such that it would make it really difficult to hide.
However, if it was a problem for them to have the ship camouflaged in the
expansion, so would it be for the romulans.

*Pandorn*/*Turner*: Response

*Turner*: Good men. Let me know as soon as it's ready. I'll be on the
bridge.

*Pandorn*/*Sirok*: Response

((OCC: I left the last tag unanswered to make it look better with the
admiral's response.))
