((Briefing Room =E2=80=93 The Hub =E2=80=93 StarBase 118.))

As Kudon entered the briefing room, he was already feeling more at home in=
=20
the serious tone he was sensing from Taybrim's body language than Kudon had=
=20
felt during earlier festivities. A real mission was what Kudon wanted to=
=20
be part of more than anything.

Taybrim: Thank you all for joining me today. As many of you may have=20
guessed our new mission builds directly off the work we recently completed=
=20
with our Klingon allies and the information we were able to gather. I want=
=20
to give a brief overview of the sector and the elements we are working with=
=20
for out newest crew. However=E2=80=A6

A security field fizzed into life as Taybrim tinkered with a few commands.

Taybrim: I must let you all know that the information we are about to=20
discuss is sensitive and classified. It is to remain confidential between=
=20
those in this room and only others who are on a need to know basis. If=20
anyone has any objection to this please let me know, now and I will make=20
sure you are safely reassigned to non-critical duties.

Kudon certainly was going to stay, but he felt it somewhat of an=20
paradoxical question from the Captain. How could one judge the need for=20
confidentiality without knowing what was going to be kept confidential? =20
And how would an officer be perceived if they made such a choice. It=20
seemed like a somewhat unfair proposition.

Maxwell: My turn tae stay behind and make the tea, aye?

Any: ?

((OOC =E2=80=93 if your character would protest IC you can certainly do so =
=E2=80=93 if=20
that happens we'll roleplay that in a separate sim from here.))

Taybrim: Security lockdown Taybrim one-five.

The intensity of this moment was starting to get under Kudon's skin a bit. =
=20
Perhaps naively, he did not expect his first mission as an Ensign to be of=
=20
such enormous gravity. He felt that tingling sensation in his gut mildly=
=20
come on and briefly, without drawing attention to himself, applied Vulcan=
=20
meditation breathing to ensure he was 100% focused on what he was about to=
=20
hear. His mind briefly wondered if the security technology now being used=
=20
was in any way similar to the warp core encryption technology he had=20
contributed to at the Academy.

Taybrim: ::He spoke in calm, even tones as he address the crew, again=20
fixing his gaze on each and every one of them in turn.:: The reason we are=
=20
taking such precautions is because the matter we are dealing with is one of=
=20
diplomatic delicacy and there are criminal elements that actively want to=
=20
see us fail in this. I will start with an overview.

Kudon took one of the PADD's and began scanning it, having quelled the=20
nerves for now.

Taybrim: The information you are seeing is a loose explanation about the=20
Cult of Molor. They are a Klingon-based cult that worships the teachings=
=20
of Molor over Kahless, whom they view as a traitor and a usurper. Their=20
doctrine includes the belief that truth lies in pain, striking from the=20
shadows is wise and that the strong must be dominated. In general it is a=
=20
perversion of the typical Klingon culture you are aware of. Specifically=
=20
the Cult of Molor as it stands today seeks to destabilize the Klingon=20
Empire though assassination of key members of the High Council as well as=
=20
inciting a Klingon Civil war, propelled by bioweaponry to enact a coup and=
=20
seize power.

Taybrim: Now you may be asking, why are the Klingons not directly dealing=
=20
with this =E2=80=93 and why haven't they already acted. Excellent =
questions. The=20
answer is a bit more complicated, but in general the Klingons are also=20
stubborn and most do not see a dingy old cult to be an actual threat. And=
=20
they don't want to believe that the cult spans far beyond only Klin=
gon=20
support. However we have uncovered =E2=80=93 and recently communicated =E2=
=80=93 a strong=20
connection between the Orion Syndicate and the Cult of Molor. Simply put=
=20
the Syndicate seeks to profit from war and is bolstering the cult to incite=
=20
war so they can step in and make a fat profit from weapons dealing.

Kudon did not wish to be too out of turn as a new Ensign. But his interest=
=20
in interstellar diplomatic relations from the Academy prompted a question. =
=20

Kudon: Captain, if I may...how does this involve the Federation? Thus far=
=20
it sounds, as awful as this Cult of Molor is, like an internal Klingon=20
matter.

Taybrim: ::He nodded slowly:: This is where it gets sticky. The Cult of=20
Molor has support from those far outside its membership, even if that=E2=80=
=99s=20
only support in turning a blind eye to a specific report or funneling a bit=
=20
of money or a freighter in a specific direction to be raided. ::His tone=
=20
was sober and slowly turned dark.:: This includes support from inside the=
=20
Federation from individuals who would like to see the Klingon Empire be=20
hurt by a civil war. As much as we would like to think everyone has moved=
=20
past old prejudices, our sources and information clearly show that some=20
have not. So the Cult is receiving support from a wide range of=20
underground allies.

Kudon was left speechless, only nodding with amazement as he processed=20
this. People within the Federation who would support such a cult? Clearly=
=20
if the contents of the meeting were this secret, Taybrim was not talking=20
about minor Federation lackies, Kudon presumed.

Any: ?

Taybrim: One of the main weapons the cult has is a compound called silicon=
=20
platinochloride. It is an airborne toxin that destroys the blood vessels=
=20
in a carbon based lifeform. While it is harmful and easily deadly to all=
=20
species it is especially lethal to Klingons. This toxin goes by the street=
=20
name of =E2=80=98Death Fog' and it has been smuggled into Klingon S=
pace by the=20
cult. We recently successfully tested a prototype scrubbing robot that=20
will remove this toxin from the air and have been hard at work replicating=
=20
them. We had hoped to have all of the scrubbers in place before the cult=
=20
was alerted, but it seems they have some source of intel that prompted them=
=20
to make a first move.

Kudon wondered how these scrubbers worked. And whether a prototype would=
=20
be reliable enough for such a critical mission.

Taybrim: At 0427 hours yesterday we received a coded message from one of=20
our allies in the Klingon empire that Captain Lofsha of the House of Dempok=
=20
was captured along with her warbird in a most dishonorable sneak attack=20
while the IKW qulCha'par was on routine patrol. Their systems were blacked=
=20
out with an electromagnetic pulse that reacted with the nebulaic gases and=
=20
all seventeen members of the crew were taken alive. Six hours later the=20
cult issued a list of demands designed to manipulate our allies in the=20
Empire into what amounts to political suicide. They are under the=20
spotlight, but we have the ability to act.

Any: ?

Maxwell: We... ::He coughed to clear his dry throat.:: Excuse me. We have a=
=20
destination, captain?=20

Taybrim: Our destination is Vankoth II, an old Klingon military base from=
=20
the Romulan-Klingon conflict. The Klingon Military pulled out decades ago=
=20
after the neutral zones were established. We're not sure when the =
cult=20
moved in, but they've certainly laid claim to the place. We=E2=80=
=99ll be taking=20
the USS Narendra close to the destination and using a salvaged Klingon=20
shuttlecraft to approach. Vankoth II is a weapons cache for the cult, and=
=20
intel indicates it is also a storage area for Death Fog.

Any: ?

Taybrim: We have three main goals. First is to rescue the hostages. =20
Second is to neutralize the Death Fog and third is to destroy the stolen=20
weapons. Commander Nijil will be leading away team one with the goal of=20
retrieving the hostages.=20

It crossed Kudon's mind if Taybrim had listed those in order of priority.

Nijil: ?

Taybrim: Commander McLaren, Marine Captain Luthas, Lieutenant Stendhal and=
=20
Ensign deBarres will be working with Commander Nijil on this team.=20

McLaren/Luthas/Stendhal/deBarres: ?

Nijil: ?

Taybrim: Again your goal is to safely extract Captain Lofsha and the=20
sixteen crew of the qulCha'par. Lofsha is not aware of Starfleet's=
hand in=20
this, but is aware of the cult and has a background in border=20
negotiations. She should be willing to help you if you can convince her=20
that your presence and actions benefit her and her crew.

McLaren/Luthas/Stendhal/deBarres: ?

Nijil: ?

Taybrim: Second is to cleanse or eradicate the stores of Death Fog. =20
Commander Galven will be lead for this mission.

Galven: ?

Taybrim: You will be using Taelon's design to help you complete the=
=20
scrubbing and you'll have to be careful in getting close enough to =
release=20
the robots. Ensigns Taelon, Steiger, Kudon and Lieutenant Bailey will be=
=20
on this team.

Taelon/Steiger/Bailey: ?

Kudon: How confident are we that scrubbing the silicon platinochloride will=
=20
render it 100% neutralized?

Galven: ?

Taybrim: yes, you will also be headed to the surface of Valkoth II. The=20
scans and fuzzy schematics Starfleet intel was able to gather will be=20
available to both ground teams.

Kudon: If possible, it would be ideal to analyze the scrubbing technology=
=20
before going to the surface, so that we can be fully aware of its=20
capabilities and potential limitations.

He did not wish to say so, but Kudon thought that perhaps he had something=
=20
he could contribute to enhance the technology. He could be an=20
overconfident Ensign, though sometimes with justification. =20

Taelon/Steiger/Bailey: ?

Galven: ?

Taybrim: Last, but certainly not least, the rest of us will stay on the USS=
=20
Narendra. We have two primary goals =E2=80=93 defend against any ships tha=
t may be=20
in the area and locate their weapons cache to be able to capture or destroy=
=20
it. That means Commander Maxwell, Lieutenant Blackwell, and Ensign=20
Casparian =E2=80=93 you're all with me.

Maxwell: Aye, sir.

Casparian: ?

Taybrim: We will launch the USS Narendra in two hours, but we will have=20
seventeen hours before we reach our destination. That should give each=20
team enough time to convene, place and still be freshly rested for the=20
mission. Are there any last questions?

Many questions flashed through Kudon's mind and he was about to open his=20
mouth, when it occurred to him that as a new crew member, it might not=20
reflect well on him to have the final question at such a crucial briefing. =
=20
Surely his questions would be answered in time. He glanced over at Taelon=
=20
and Steiger, the two men assigned to his team that he hardly knew. He made=
=20
a mental note to greet both of them after the meeting was dismissed. But=
=20
patience was in order for now.
