((Subterranean Tunnels - Vel Maijan))

=20

A proximity alarm in his hemet indicated someting was on the move, closing
in on them fast. And it was huge, according to the deep rumbling and heavy
vibrations shaking the tunnel causing small particles of the rock to fall
around them. Whatever it was, it was huge.

=20

Teller: =3D/\=3D Contact front, 425m and closing. Defensive formation one,=
now.
=3D/\=3D

=20

Krindo motioned to Greaves and moved to the front quickly and dropped to a
knee, phaser already out and pointed ahead. Greaves was right beside him.

=20

Pandorn: =3D/\=3D Hold your fire until we see whatever it is and it attacks=
,
Lieutenant. =3D/\=3D

=20

Brell/Teller/Lovar/Greaves: =3D/\=3D Response =3D/\=3D

=20

The rumbling crew louder, and it sounded more like...digging? Like an
industrial size excavator was being used but there was no distinct hum of
machinery. This was unsettling. Whatever it was, was now in visual range an=
d
Krindo's jaw dropped to the floor.

=20

Pandorn: =3D/\=3D What in blazes...? =3D/\=3D

=20

Greaves pointed down the tunnel, his voice of alarm rang loudly in Krindo's
ear.

=20

Greaves: =3D/\=3D Visual! =3D/\=3D

=20

The tunnel was pitch black, save for their wrist lights, but there was
definitely something in the dust that was swirling due to the disturbance i=
n
the tunnel. Something huge and fast, clicking sounds were echoing throughou=
t
the tunnel now.=20

=20

Greaves: =3D/\=3D Wait, there's two of them! Second is ten meters and clos=
ing,
two meters below us! =3D/\=3D

=20

Brell: =3D/\=3D No life form matches on the tricorder . it can't make out c=
lear
readings, they have some kind of armor or chitin. =3D/\=3D

=20

Teller: =3D/\=3D It's a damn dragon. =3D/\=3D

=20

Lovar: =3D/\=3D Woa- =3D/\=3D

=20

Suddenly, Krindo found himself falling as the floor beneath him and Greaves
disappeared into the darkness and they both landed with a thud, feeling
limbs surrounding him. Those limbs retreated sharply to an opposite wall,
wildly chirping and clicking, flailing some serrated limbs wildly in their
direction. Krindo, still a bit woozy from the fall, weakly raised his
phaser, but did not do anything else. His head was throbbing, as if he hit
the side of his head a bit hard against his helmet. His comms were cracklin=
g
with orders and conjecture from above.

=20

Lovar: ::to Brell:: =3D/\=3D Sir, I highly recommend we back up a little. =
=3D/\=3D

=20

Brell: =3D/\=3D Afraid we can't do that Lieutenant, we need to get down the=
re
now! =3D/\=3D

=20

Krindo saw the hazy form of Climb down to Brell climb down standing next to
Krindo as the external channel was open. Captain Brell was attempting to
communicate with whatever the bug-like being was. It was pressing itself
against the wall, still clicking loudly and waving wildly. Captian brell wa=
s
trying to be as calm as possible. The insectoid was clearly frightened.

=20

Brell: =3D/\=3D We mean you no harm. =3D/\=3D

=20

Geoff's voice was like a mile away, but Krindo could heasr the CO was
worried about captain brell being down there with two disoriented security
officers. Krindo was worried too, were they going to be insect food or what=
?

=20

Teller: =3D/\=3D Krindo, Wes, I need you both back on your feet and on guar=
d.
We've...made contact..::Geoff glanced over to the blue man in a space suit
talking slowly to a dragon, and shrugged::...I think. Lt. Lovar, can you
very discreetly take some readings on Smaug over there? Captain Brell sir, =
I
appreciate your efforts but you're exposing yourself to enormous risk. You
mind backing off a bit and letting us get in front of you?=3D/\=3D

=20

Krindo rose to his feet slowly, still keeping his phaser trained on the
creature. He put his other arm out to help Greaves to his feet, but it
seemed Captain Brell was going to pull rank.

=20

Greaves/Lovar: responses

=20

Brell: ::Starfleet channel.:: =3D/\=3D Risk, is part of the job. I'd rathe=
r get
attacked then let us attack something that is only acting out fear. =3D/\=
=3D
::Open air comm:: =3D/\=3D We, come without hostile intent. =3D/\=3D

=20

Teller: =3D/\=3D Very well. Lt. Lovar, any chance you can help with our
translators? If Captain Brell can't communicate with these creatures we
could still be in a lot of trouble. Krindo - stick to the Captain like glu=
e
- you're to drag him out of here if I say so. ::Teller noticed a biomed
alert in his suit:: Mr. Greaves, you doing alright? Your heart rate is
spiking. Trying upping your O2 mixture, it'll help. =3D/\=3D=20

=20

Pandorn: ::Starfleet channel:: =3D/\=3D Yes, sir. Captain Brell, I have a d=
uty
to protect the team. Please, step to the side of me at least, sir. =3D/\=3D
::looking at Greaves for a moment:: =3D/\=3D Lieutenant Greaves looks to be
hyperventilating. =3D/\=3D

=20

A second creature appeared, more imposing than the one against the wall and
a series of clicks and chirps rang out in the tunnel. They seem to be
communicating with each other. Krindo wondered why the suit's UT wasn't
translating the sounds. Could it have been damaged in the tunnel? Or the
interference from the minerals? The imposing creatured moved towards them a=
s
the smaller one moved towards something in the ground. The larger one was
clacking menacingly, and for a moment, Krindo thought an attack was
imminent. He went to raise his phaser up at the creature, when the ground
below the creature glowed brightly for a second, striking the creature in
the underbelly. This caused both creatures to retreat, chattering wildly as
the pulled down the tunnel's celing, cutting off the route. However, a new
path was now carvved and some human looking figures came forward in EV suit=
s
that looked ancient, and patchwork repaired. Geoff stepped forward as Krind=
o
and the others re-grouped.

=20

Teller: =3D/\=3D I'm Lt. Cmdr. Geoffrey Teller from the Federation Starship
Thor. We're here in response to a distress call. Identify yourselves. =3D/\=
=3D

=20

The one with the phaser gave a sharp nod to the other one.

=20

Flynn: Response

=20

Teller: =3D/\=3D That's correct, the United Federation Of Planets. Very c=
lassy
blue & white flag. Heard of it? =3D/\=3D=20

=20

Flynn: Response

=20

Pandorn: =3D/\=3D I take it you were the ones who sent the distress call? =
=3D/\=3D

=20

Brell/Flynn/ Greaves/Lovar/Teller: =3D/\=3D Response =3D/\=3D

=20

The other one interrupted with a click of the switch positioned above his
right ear. He had his external comms shut off some some reason. Suspicion?
Something didn't make sense.

=20

Armiger: Our suits have limited capacity. We're returning now. This way if
you would.

=20

It's just as well. Krindo didn't relish another encounter with those
creatures. Besides, his head was still throbbing, and he was still a little
woozy from the fall, his body aching a bit. Why did EV suits need to be so
ridgid?

=20

Brell/Flynn/ Greaves/Lovar/Teller: =3D/\=3D Response =3D/\=3D

=20

The tunnels were a winding maze of dust filled passages, some ancient, some
fairly recent. They were moving further underground and Krindo kept his hea=
d
on a swivel, as those creatures could appear again at anytime.

=20

Pandorn: =3D/\=3D It was fortunate that you came upon us when you did. Glad=
you
did. =3D/\=3D oO Almost planned, I'd say. Oo

=20

Brell/Flynn/ Greaves/Lovar/Teller: =3D/\=3D Response=3D/\=3D

=20

Armiger: We were in a rush; it takes time for the dust to settle. Keep up.
The airlock is ahead.

=20

Pandorn: =3D/\=3D Right behind you. =3D/\=3D

=20

Brell/Flynn/ Greaves/Lovar/Teller: =3D/\=3D Response =3D/\=3D

=20

(( Airlock Entrance - Vel Maijan Subterra. ))

=20

The airlock opened up to a complex that was not unlike a Starfleet outpost,
although a great deal older from Krindo's point of view. But, it wasn't in
pristine condition, signs of distress and damage were visible in spots, an=
d
it was a wonder the place wasn't completely irradiated. The airlock door
closed behind him and he only removed his helmet, when he saw their rescuer=
s
take theirs off first.

=20

Pandorn: This place has seen better days....
