(( Akeelah's Quarters ))

Gre'thor... It took her everything not to wince at the mention of
Klingon Hell and she pushed away her animosity against those warriors
reminding herself not all of them where like those she had seen during
her childhood. .oO Focus on now. Dance. Oo.

D'Sena: I believe I have seen that kind of dance but haven't attemp=
ted
it before.

Foster: I think you'd benefit from knowing something classic and cl=
assy
for your wedding. That'll also be a grounded dance, nice and =
smooth and
steady.

D'Sena: Does the holodeck- ::She began the question and then stopped
herself. The Rodulan pressed her lips together and hesitated but
eventually she spoke again.:: Would you be willing to teach me?

Why was asking for help so difficult?

Foster: ::He smiled slowly:: I would love to teach you.

D'Sena: I believe it may be best if I first get back into standing.
Otherwise it may be difficult to dance.

Foster: I agree.

Her hands rubbed over the armrests of her wheelchair. Two years she had
trusted this thing to get her around. She couldn't just stop. While she
had done her training, she knew it was a whole different thing to stand
and walk. The muscle groups were even different.

D'Sena: I know I won't be able to easily walk and not use the chair at
all right away. But I also obviously need to rely less on it. What are
my options?

Foster: Well, again, your body works but it needs therapy. So we star=
t
that. You do mornings well if I remember correctly so we have a morni=
ng
date. We'll do six days a week, but only three will be walkin=
g or
standing, the other three will be yoga.

She had done training on her own but she was quite aware that it wasn't
enough. Her legs were still weak. She realized now that the fear of
standing - or rather not being able to stand - had held her back even in
her training. It had lead to her not being efficient enough, not pushing
herself enough, staying in the comfortable box of things she knew she
could do. She nodded slightly, though one of these items was not like
the others.

D'Sena: Yoga?

Foster: Heck, yeah yoga. That will improve mobility, stability streng=
th
and balance. And we can start with chair yoga until you've bu=
ilt up
strength for other positions.

She raised her brow ever so slightly but she saw the sense in his words.
Even if she would not see it, he was the doctor and knew what he was
talking about. She had to trust him and his knowledge.

D'Sena: Are you accompanying me in these exercises?

Foster: You bet I'm doing this with you. Besides, at my age, =
any yoga
is good yoga. These old joints prefer to stay working comfortably.

She smiled, it was comforting to know that he would do this with her, as
he had in the past. She didn't know how long this spirit of change and
activity in her would stay but right now she felt like she couldn't wait
to start.

D'Sena: Good. I agree with your plan

Foster: Good, then we can start tomorrow?

D'Sena: ::a simple nod:: Yes, tomorrow.

(( Quarters D'Sena - Next morning ))

It was early morning and as always Akeelah was up and ready. She had a
certain rhythm and even if she tried to sleep in her body just woke her
up. So she had woken early, taken a sonic shower in her chair and
dressed up in her trainings clothing, Starfleet Standard Edition as
always. She never ate before her morning exercise so this would wait
also now that they had a morning date. The Rodulan was just in the
progress of binding her unruly mane into a high ponytail when the sound
from the door made her look up.

D'Sena: Come in.

Foster: ?

D'Sena: A good morning to you too, Cade. I hope you are ready for
::beat:: what are we ready for?

Foster: ?

Now that he was here and things were about to go down she felt the
nervousness again. That fear creeping up her neck. He wouldn't expect
miracles, she knew that. But that bloody fear had been with her for so
long it was like a trusted friend whom she was reluctant to let go. She
tried to push it aside though. This needed to happen.

D'Sena: Ah yes. How are we doing to do this?

Foster: ?

"Maybe it was a gas leak in the shed."
Her parents' mumbling voices went past Alana, it was all too much for
her. Never had she seen a fire like that, and the
pile of ashes in the garden showed how lucky they were that nobody had
been inside when it went off. But something felt
wrong with what her brother said. Not the words themselves in the first
moment, but seeing their gazes, the looks her
parents shot over to her every now and then. They were full of shock and
something else that the little ten year old girl
had never seen before.

Fear.
