Davis: No, no, don't worry. Nothing like that. Minor renovation. Th=
ough as someone familiar with the space, what do you think is the number on=
e suggestion-complaint about this astrophysics lab?
Traenor: Oh, well, that's easy, since I've complained about this for years.=
Just like in the Astrometrics lab, the controls for manipulating the main =
projection are heads-down. Any scrolling display work is a multi-person end=
eavor, and is nigh impossible for one officer to do alone.
Davis: ::grinning:: Bingo. And that's the top of the list.
Traenor: ::eyes opened wide in surprise:: Oh? How are we going to accomplis=
Lazarus smirked, his voice with a hint of excitement.=20
Davis: A holo-haptic terminal.=20
Traenor: ::realization dawning and getting excited:: So then you can have a=
virtual terminal as you stand among the projection... That just might work=
Davis: I'm hoping so! It's a new tech, but it seems proven =
so far. I'm interested to hear what you think of it, too.
Traenor: I'm all for upgrades that enrich the day-to-day usage of laborator=
ies, trust me. ::pause:: Look, all joking aside earlier, I just wanted to m=
ake sure the word got out to you that I'm here to be a team player. I know =
I have a resume on this ship, but that has no bearing on my commitment to t=
he rank and order of the department.
The sudden change of topic caught Lazarus off guard. Had he been visibly ne=
Davis: Thank you, Maxwell. I appreciate you saying that, and for what it=E2=
=80=99s worth I didn't expect anything different. I'm excit=
ed to have someone with more experience around. I may have been selected to=
help lead the department, but it doesn't mean I know more than any=
one else. ::He laughed:: If anything it might mean my collar is starting to=
take on a purple-y hue.=20
Lazarus surprised himself with that last bit. He wasn't used to say=
ing out loud that he had command ambitions, but something about Maxwell put=
Lazarus at ease. They seemed to be cut from a similar cloth, in ways. He s=
miled at Lazarus, and gave him a mischievous wink.
Traenor: Alright, Boss, I'll let you get back to the important work then. I=
*can* call you Boss, right, Boss?
Davis: Anything to facilitate a healthy working environment, Maxwell. And t=
hanks, I've got a couple more things to put to bed before I can off=
icially begin my shore leave.
