He was beginning to wonder if he could= take anymore surprises like this before he imploded from the shock.:: *Raga*: Sir? ::His brow raised and his tone was laden with uncertainty:: *Brell*: ::Smirking, while he picked up the rosewood box on his desk.:: Then you be needing this. ::He opened, then handed the box to Raga.:: Along= with a change of uniform Major. ::The Al-Leyan accepted the box, his hand moving as if on auto-pilot and he= popped it open and glanced down at the single golden Oak Leaf contained within. He knew it was the lateral equivalent Marine rank to Lieutenant Commander, yet seeing yet another rank in a rosewood box made a lump catch= in his throat. He wondered if he was deserving of the faith and trust this= amazingly kind man was putting in him.:: *Raga*: I..yes, sir. I will try not to let you down. ::He felt like a fresh= faced Ensign getting his first half pip all over again:: *Brell*: =3D/\=3D Brell to Lieutenant Serala. =3D/\=3D ::Hearing the Captain call for the Half Romulan made his brow raise slightly:: *Serala*: =3D/\=3D Serala here, Captain. What may I do for you?=3D/\=3D *Brell*: =3D/\=3D Could you come into my ready room please. =3D/\=3D ::Toryn's eyes widened slightly. He was unsure how much, if anything at all= the Captain might be aware of the tension and personal difficulties between= himself and Serala after their last mission but having the two of them in= the same room would undoubtedly be horribly difficult for his best friend.= Not that it wouldn't be difficult for him either, it's just that he would= endure anything to keep his best friend from harm. Especially when he was= the source of her discomfort.:: *Serala*: =3D/\=3D Aye, sir. I'm on my way.=3D/\=3D ::With the comm line closed Brell turned back to Toryn. He noted the proud= look he was being given and felt entirely humbled by it. It was enough to= diminish the apprehension he felt about being in the same room as his dear= friend Serala.:: *Brell*: So Major, your last duty as Chief of security/tactical is to let= your assistant know she has the reigns as your replacement. ::Upon hearing that he was filled with a mix of anxiousness and pride himself. As she was his best friend, one of only two that weren't small, winged and possessing deadly sharp talons, he was supremely happy for her.= He wanted all of those he cared for to succeed and felt no hesitation in wanting to pass on the department lead torch to her. She was certainly deserving of it. In some ways, he felt she was more deserving of it than he. After all, she was far stronger than he was. Not physically. But that= wasn't the strength he was referring to.:: *Raga*: I'd be glad and honored to sir. Serala, I think will far surpass my= capabilities with ease. ::The next few minutes passed with him staring silently at the rank in the= rosewood box. Until he heard light footsteps exiting the turbolift on the= bridge through the bulkhead and knew his friend was about to enter. Toryn= quickly turned to face the door, box closed and held behind his back as if= he was standing at a relaxed form of attention. The moment the doors opened= he smiled softly at her and nodded when she eventually entered. The Al-Leyan glanced briefly at Brell, and meeting his gaze he looked back to= her.:: Serala: Lieutenant Serala reporting as ordered, sir. *Raga*: Hello, Serala. Thank you for coming. *Serala*: Can I ask what is going on? You both look like cats about to pounce on the helpless mouse. ::He cleared his throat and met her gaze. No matter how much he kept his expression stoic, his eyes betrayed his feelings for her. Friend, dear as= she was, she was the first woman he'd truly fallen for. But that was irrelevant now and forever. His smile faded and he took a cue from their illustrious Captain and gave her a serious look.:: *Raga*: I have just been informed that I am to be relieved of my duties as= Chief of Tactical and Security. ::He said calmly, firmly. His expression unwavering as was his voice.:: *Serala*: I don't understand. Just because you're Second Of= ficer doesn't mean you have to give up your position as Chief of Tactical and Security,= sir. *Raga*: ::His brow raised:: As of this moment you are now Chief. *Serala*: That's great, but I still don't understand. Why a= re you no longer the Chief? ::Toryn couldn't hold back his smirk any longer, especially given her reaction.:: *Raga*: Well, I can't be the new acting Marine CO *and* run both of those= departments too. ::He brought his hands aorund in front, opening the rosewood box to let her= see the Major rank insignia contained within.:: *Serala*: Well, congratulations. Acting CO. That's impressive, sir.= And, Captain, I won't let you down. I realize this is all temporary unti= l McKnight or Logan get back, but I will do my best in the meantime. *Brell*: Oh no Lieutenant. I have other plans for Major Raga when our McKnight returns. This assignment is permanent. ::Once more Toryn's brow raised, not so much in surprise of Serala being raised to full Chief being permanent, as it was what the good Captain had= in mind for him whenever the two senior Marines returned.:: *Raga*: Really, sir? Like what? *Brell*: We will talk about when the time comes Major. ::He shifted his gaze back to Serala:: I feel you have done an explinary job as assistant chief, and would not wish to take something away you have earned. ::The Al-Leyan nodded, then looked back to his friend.:: *Serala*: response *Brell*: I expect to see your department to see you'll match or eve= n best the new Major's team in readiness evaluation reports. ::Hearing the Captain's words he glanced at Serala curiously. Her being half-Romulan and knowing her the way he did he had no doubt her drive to excel in her position would make him have to keep sharp to stay on equal footing with her. As it was, she'd already proven as his Assistant Chief that she was a force to be reckoned with.:: *Serala*: response *Raga*: Well, I'm sure Serala will be a better Chief than I was. ::He looked to his friend:: That doesn't mean I'll make it easy for you though.= I expect to have the Marines' performance records to surpass that of Security in a week. *Brell*: ::Smirking.:: I look forward to seeing the results of the rest few= tounds. *Serala*: response *Raga*: ::He smiled, glad to see she was in better spirits, even being in= the same room as him:: Yes, sir. I'll make sure Amuro's people stay sharp= so that it's like he never left whenever he returns. *Brell*: As for now you are both dismissed to set up your new offices. *Raga*: Yes, sir. ::He smiled to them both, then stepped out of the room:: *Serala*: responses ::Toryn had made sure he was the first to leave after dismissing himself ahead of her. He would have to take what few bits of decor and personal items he had set up in the security office, including the extra curved metallic perch for Sylara and move them to the Marine CO's office on Deck= 13. It only took him a minute or so to reach the security office, which was= much closer to the bridge.:: *((Brief timeskip, Security Office, Deck 4))* ::He had replicated a box with which to make ease of transport for the assorted weapons and sundries he'd had displayed around the room. Being mindful of each he then sat at the desk and quickly set about making the necessary changes in the computer. Transferring his command codes, files and logs to the Marine office on Deck 13. As well as the last report he'd= been working on so he could finalize it later. Toryn heard the tell tale light footfalls of Serala approaching the office and he jumped out of the= seat, quickly grabbing hold of the bird perch in one hand and moving to grab the box on the desk when the door opened and he looked up, seeing her= standing there in the doorway. He froze, like an animal caught in a spotlight.:: *Raga*: Oh, hello. ::He glanced around:: Apologies. Thought I'd have gotten= all of this stuff out of here quicker. ::He cleared his throat nervously and stepped away from the desk giving her= room to come in,s o he could make a hasty retreat. He did his best to avoid= meeting her gaze, mindful of how hurt she was. He was too, but that didn't= matter to him. She was having trouble being around him, and he wanted to do= everything he could to accommodate her need for space and time to cope with= what happened between them. At least, with him being down almost ten decks= below her the chance for them bumping into one another lessened. *oO* Good.= Maybe if I stay down on deck thirteen for a few months so she only has to= see me at briefings, it'll help. *Oo*:: *Serala*: response *((tags/tbc))* *=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D= =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D= =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D* *Lieutenant Commander Toryn Raga ((Soon to be Major))* *Chief of Security and Chief Tactical Officer ((Soon to be Acting Marine CO))* *USS Atlantis NCC-74682* *PodCast Team* *Atlantis Staff Member* *Writer ID: A239410TR0* -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "= UFOP: StarBase 118: USS Atlantis" group.
