(USS Constitution - Holodeck 3)) ::After the mission Jacob had taken some time for a little self reflection and some AAR - after action review. If there was one thing that Starfleet had taught him it was that the status quo was never good enough. He always needed to be learning, adapting. Finding new ways to approach problems. Looking at areas of strength and weakness and trying to refine both to better serve the ship. Working with crewmembers whose talents and skill sets complimented your own. Gleaning from those same crewmembers to improve your own attributes and loaning some of yours to help them.:: ::Starfleet was a melting pot of different ideas. It was like a walking and talking library full of incredible histories and resources. If you knew what you needed, and you knew where to look, the possibilities were endless. Jacob knew that it sounded corny but it was true. Only a few hundred years ago the Humans of Earth were venturing out on their first flights just barely touching space. But by learning from those experiences and then working through all of the possibilities that Starfleet brought, they were now spanning the universe en masse at speeds that far exceeded the speed of light. The stuff of science fiction had become reality. Nothing was impossible:: ::Jacob realized that his nerves were getting better the more he settled in. With each mission he gained a little more self confidence. He spoke up more. Felt more comfortable sharing ideas and getting closer to the crew around him. During intense periods on the missions he didn't have time to think and therefore didn't really have time to get nervous. He realized that nervousness was a state of mind that could be controlled. It would take continued work but he knew that this was something that he could overcome.:: ::His social awkwardness? Well, that was something he wasn't sure would ever change. There was just something about engineers and they way they thought that tended to make them a different breed. It wasn't a bad thing. He knew it took all kinds to make Starfleet work so he didn't stress about this one. He was going to embrace it.:: ::As all of these wonderful thoughts about bettering himself were floating around in his head Jacob was quickly brought back to life with a literal stiff punch to the face:: Mickey: Get up ya bum! ::Jacob looked down and saw that he was sitting on the floor covered with some kind of dirty tan canvas material. He looked at his hands to find them covered with puffy leather gloves. He looked up to find a wrinkly old man in a dark beanie that was pulled towards the back of his head to reveal a great of of bald spot with little wisps of silver hair escaping from the sides:: ::Jacob realized that he was in the holodeck running a program he crafted to replicate the earth movie series "Rocky" from the late 20th century:: Mickey: Get up kid! You gotta get back in there! ::Across from Jacob was a large man. Very muscular. Red shorts with gold trim at the waist. Gloves to match. He face was chiseled from stone. His opponents golden hair was cut close on the side and left flat on the top. A quick glance to the walls of the gym revealed a large poster with this same boxers face. The name below to face read "Ivan Drago".:: Mickey: Hands up. Ok?! His fast. Watch out for his speed. And his power. He's got some real power. Hands like stones. You can do this kid but you gotta fight! ::Jacob picked himself up:: Horne: I don't know Mickey. I don't know if I'm ready for this. ::Pow! Another punch to the face:: Mickey: Hands up! ::Jacob did as he was told and just in time. Drago's next punch somehow missed Jacob's face and only connected with Jacob's gloves...but the gloves bounced off of Jacob's face and it still hurt.:: Mickey: That's better kid. Now punch back! ::Jacob wasn't so sure that was a good idea:: -tbc- Lieutenant Junior Grade Jacob Horne Engineering USS Constitution-B C239408JH0 -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "UFOP: StarBase 118 - USS Constitution-B" group.
